Default Need Urgent Help

Hi, i got a leopard tortoise for christmas and it's been doing pretty well.
i feed it mostly grass and a little bit of cabbage each day, and of course change it water every morning. though today i noticed the tortoise pushing the grass away to get at the cabbage and not bothering with the grass. i know it will get very sick if it doesnt eat a variety of things.
i live in ireland so there is a nice variety of grasses, weeds and herbs.
it would be very helpful if someone could tell me if
a)is it dangerous to keep feeding this diet?
b)if so what should i be feeding it?

I've moved this into the help and chat section from the caresheet section, I'm sure someone will be able to help you work out an appropriate diet in here

Hi,Leopard torts need a coarse high fibre diet made up mainly of grasses,I wouldn't feed cabbage at all. They also need calcium and mineral suppliments and plenty of heat. They also like opuntia cactus(the prickly pear)Someone who knows more about leopards should be along shortly.

I don't keep tortoises, but I do keep terrapins and they are similar in that neither should be fed cabbage. Cabbage is a member of the Brassica family, most of which contain high levels of oxalates which prevent the conversion of calcium into bone and shell.
I'm sure plenty of turt keepers will tell you a diet of weeds is best, with a sprinkling of Nutrobal and calcium for vitamins and minerals.

Likewise with Graham,i am a turt keeper rather than tort maybe both one day,who knows, but anyway - dont know if its been mentioned but you can buy packs of seeds to grow food (weeds i think) - so maybe you wanna look into that?

Avoid cabbage though!

Yes but I am sure Leopards eat grasses mainly unlike the other torts who eat mainly weeds.
