you're going to need a 6ft+ tank eventually for them i'd have thought so you may as well go straight to it. No point in having to buy new tanks every year or so in my opinion.

Actually there's a couple of good reasons for not going straight for the full-size tank at this stage.

Firstly there's the obvious one of spreading the cost over a few years, a really big tank and filter won't be cheap, a medium size setup should cost quite a bit less. When it comes to the eventual upgrade the smaller setup can either be sold, or the filter at least can be kept and a second filter added to increase the capacity, so it's not money wasted.

Also at this stage the sex of the turts is unknown, it could be that they both turn out to be males and they may need separating at some point. If that's the case then all that's needed is to aquire a second medium size setup.

If it were me I'd delay the purchase of the big setup until you know it's exactly what you need.
