I'm not so sure if this is also the case with reds, as they are alot bigger than most med species, but you shouldn't be able to sex them properly at 3 years of age, and anyone who tells you they can are most probably making it up, or have an over-grown tortoise.

I know Sarah keeps and breeds reds, so she might be able to help you more than me!

I keep and breed redfoots, at 3 yrs old its quite possible to sex the animal but it wouldn't be a 100% garantee, in general reds are far more easily sexed at about 5yrs old when a more certain ID can be given.

As for size it depends what regional varient of red foot you have,some do grow huge upto 16 inches in length and weigh around 9-16 lb in weight, these large animals are not very often seen in captivity here in the UK but the smaller types known as Cherryheaded redfoots and the much more commonly seen Guyana redfoots are often seen for sale they reach lengths of 8-12 inches and weigh in at around 6-8lb
