I don't want to tell you what to do or buy but please think very carefully of keeping these giants. I was offered a baby for a grand but this is why I declined.

Firstly the indoor accomodation will need to be vast. Forget about a 12x8 garden shed they would need a huge shed or a barn. Even a double garage would not be big enough. You would have to heat it with gas fired central heating as electrical power would cost you a bomb. Also your outdoor accom. would have to be extremely strong. these animals would need proper fenceing otherwise they will simplely go through it.

These animals are so prone to lumpy shell and the research done of them needs to be done. I would only feed them grass and hay otherwise you would have a giant indian star on your hands !

This is the thing that really put me off! think of the problems with a giant Aldabra if it gets sick.

You can't pick it up on your own so you would have to get 6 mates and a van to take it to the vets.

you can't stomach tube it as it would break your fingers by pulling them inside its shell as its neck muscles are so strong. (I know a man who broke his fingers by tubing a leopard)

If you have to inject it for RNS(say it was 100kg) you would need 300ml of baytril ! 300 mils thats 6 huge 50ml cattle syringes.!! (that may not be the right ratio I would have to look it up but it would be a lot!!!)

All these things put me off but if you want a huge tort then I would look at sulcata's not the mighty Aldabra. but please do a lot of research these too are huge animals.
