it's alright to have them and yes, they are pets. i just consider them like world treasures....you know that they will outlive the grandkids....i just consider them ...like maybe ......oooohh!!! anyone that keeps them better put them above themselves...there i said it. my idea of a pet is something that will not outlive you by 100 years or more...you are just the custodian.....dang!...now i sound like the tort forum.....get one but realize that you can never own it....never mind...get a good tort guy to explain....

Don't worry dude im not gunna get one im a 15 year old kid who has no money and these are great animals i have all the respsect for them you have i was dreaming like haveing a komodo as a pet that would also be slightly cruel but i think captive breeding animals like these is iimportant if there endangered. It's like with the tortoise market in china is horrific and nasty and i certainly would't kill a tortoise but alot of these horrible farms help sustain the economy instead of endangered species being taken from the wild. You made a good point on the whole age thing i never think about that and im sure loads of people dont cause i know plenty of old people with torts.

it's cool... i just kinda feel that they aren't for everyone....if you one day buy a big spread and set up a brilliant habitat...more power to you!!!

you'll be helping them...just one of a kind animals and we are lucky to have a few still with us......if i was rich, the best that i could do is be a good custodian to them...they are bigger than us i feel.

There bigger than us in both senses of the word. And i really think we should care with these dinosaurs as if they've been around this long we shouldn't screw things up for them. Sometimes we dont mean to though, for instance when i was little i always dreamt to one day go to the galapocus to see the giant tortoises there and be a total eco warrior but now i discover its nature observers like me that are ruinging the islands causing a large economy and so pollution strains on rescoures and so. And there not the only reptiles were ruining things for either i recently read an articke about how temperatures can often control the sexing of crocodile eggs along with other reptiles and because of global warming raising the earths temp by 1-2 degrees we causing a single sex strain on a species. So basically i can see your veiws but because the majority of us arent going to sort things out for there natural enviroment were gunna have to resort to captivisation.
