Hi there
Lil Henry is either a lot older than two or he has been fed a really bad diet in the past. His carapace is quite deformed and he will need to monitored closely to make sure all future growth is slow and even although he will not lose the pyramids that have already formed. Make sure you look at Tortoises for feeding info and do not keep him too warm which will make him want to eat far more than he actually needs. He looks like a viv tort so hopefully you have changed hishabitat too.
Good luck

I have just used the measuring guide on tladies site and he is about 3 according to that the length of middle finger (i must have wierd shaped hands or summin!!!)
In answer to the substrate question he has sawdust at bed end and sand and soil mix at the other. He is now in a tortoise table enclosure because i heard that was the best for him and his heat and light are set up as shown by some peeps on here.
He has about 90% of his food from my garden and the woods behind got from a list on here to make sure i wouldn't poison him but when i picked him up he had sweetcorn banana and lettuce in his bowl so i don't think his diet was that good and i always make sure that he has fresh water everyday.
I am on here at least once a day too checkin for new stuff too (keen or what !!) but i want to get it right.
Hope i'm doing it well and thanks for all tips on here it's making my life easier now i'm not panicking about him.

My first thought was he is two big for a two year old, you can see he has been over fed by the bumpy shell. In comparison, my Herman who hatched in Aug 2005 is under 70g... What weight is Henry? I don't know much about Horsfields to be honest, so I don't know if they are a bit bigger than Hermann's or not. I would suggest you cut down on his food though if he is putting more than 3-4g on a month as Horsfields are only able to eat about 3-4 months a year in the wild.... Someone will tell me if that is wrong, but it is about that!

That's right. There really is no way of saying how old he is by measuring him, he is obviously a lot bigger than he should be and judging by the degree of thickened shell could have other internal problems too, so his weight gain needs to be watched very closely to make sure he does not continue to gain at this rate. Try to give him older tougher weeds to eat rather than lots of new mushy stuff so that digestion will be slower.

Well done for taking him on. Keep hydration to a maximum as those little kidneys have obviously been subjected to a lot of protein in the past
