Ticks are actually quite common on WC torts and easy to remove once it's ID'd as one.

go to B&Q and pick up some play sand and top soil.

this is best for horsfields.

Just going to prove how frighteningly little the average pet shop knows about the welfare of tortoises. Why on earth they do not have to take some form of course to be able to sell and advise on these poor unfortunate creatures I will never know. It's about as daft as me being able to go out and sell someone an elephant and advise on it's care
Go for a mix of sand and soil which is similar to what they would have in the wild, costs less and your torts will be less likely to become ill.

already answered in your pm whats best to use, and your other thread in regards to why wood chips are ill advised..

seriously top soil/play sand works out far cheaper, lasts longer and you will have a MUCH happier and healthier tort i can guarantee!

i have tried to take some pics of him and the mystery growth, o have loaded them to photo bucket or wot ever its called
