yep, i'll repeat again as pm n other post obviously didn't get through.

sawdust is incredibly dusty and could irritate eyes, i would suspect it could cause an RI possibly...as you're told to avoid it with many many other animals for this reason.

Hay if ingested could cause all kinds of problems for a med species that isn't meant to survive on grasses and hay, due to the high silica content, not to mention it could be high in protein, and it harbors mold spores.

Sawdust is very dusty (I suppose the name is self explanatory) and can cause breathing problems, It is also flamable and wouldn't be safe under a lamp.

Hay is too dry and also gets mouldy- which is bad for tortoises. Hay is also a fire risk.

The best substrates are Hemcore/Auboise hemp: Distributors of Hemcore Animal Bedding

or 60/40 soil and sand (Good for digging species such as horsfields)

Try not to spray the soil and sand mixture too much, as it will get damp, which isn't good for your horsfield.

Do you work with it as an animal bedding or in it's manufacture. I have dust sensitivity and have no problems with aubiose but hemcore tends to be a bit more bitty.
