Unhappy Eating The Substrate !!

Is it normal for Henry (horsfield) to be trying to eat the substrate. When i got him he was on sawdust which i changed to a 6 part topsoil, 4 part playsand mix. He has decided today to try and eat a bit, he spat it back out pretty sharpish but i just want to know if this is ok. I have cut his food down a bit and am giving him tougher weeds to eat because of his growth and i feel bad incase he is hungry.

Quite normal, they will often try to eat new substrate until they get used to it. Some of mine eat stones when they first go outdoors and do very gravelly poo for a while, it's not a problem.

my marginateds you to try and eat anything new when they went outside, including dirt, stones bugs etc.
I wouldnt worry about him trying to eat his substrate as its dirt anyway.

He proberly wondering what this new stuff is on the ground so ate some...but spat it out because its proberly not very nice.

I dont think top soil/ sand can cause impaction even if he was eating it.

No need to worry.

Jason =)
