i know they shouldn't be wormed during winter. summer is preferred. and torts that live outdoors generally get worms yearly anyhow so they get wormed yearly. im unsure though if it cud do any harm worming your tort yearly anyhow, altho i may be corrected!!

anybody got a microscope to check for worms yourself ? I am thinking of getting one as if there is no need to worm if you don't have to as it is best for the gut flora. I am not sure but I am open to sujestions.

I took part in a programme (or rather my torts did) several years back for the RCVS The results showed that tortoises kept out of doors were in need of annual routine worming. The time of year does not matter so long as it is not prior to hibernation. Some people say it is not good to worm if there are no symptoms but if you had seen the results of this study you would want it done routinely

This would give you a good idea of the more common worm counts, but a much more sophisticated set up than your average microscope would be needed to screen for many parasites. If just getting an idea of the worm burden and you know exactly how to do this then fine but if the tortoise was unwell and you simply wormed him when he had other, more serious problems then this could compromise his health. JMHO of course
