Default combined UV/heat bulbs?

Would these bulbs fit into a desk lamp? Ideally i'm after a desk lamp to provde the heat and UV, but i wasn't sure if these bulbs are suitable for this?

I'm trying to avoid separate Uv and heat as this will cst me more in the long run.

Any ideas!?

PS. Hemp-good or bad for hatchlings? I've heard different things..

Thank you! Holly

If its the type of desk lamp im thinking of then i dont think it will work. If you can fit a basic house bulb in it should be ok though.

I dont use hemp but havent heard of any problems, what are you using at the mo?

I wouldn't use a desk lamp, MVBs get very hot and need a ceramic holder with heat resistant wiring for a start, something a desk lamp is unlikely to have. Also, unless the shade is pretty big, the bulb is likely to overheat and be damaged.

Any reason why you particularly want to use a desk lamp? The aluminium lampholders/shades sold for chicken runs are suitable for MVBs and can be hung from anywhere convenient by a length of chain (usually supplied with the holder), they only cost around £12-13.

Or use the proper dome reflectors sold for MVBs, a bit more expensive but ideal for the purpose.

Normal desk lamps would be a fire hazard running one of these. You MUST have a specialist lamp holder for them.

Thanks for replys.

I'm after a 60w 240 volts Mega ray combined lamp - can't seem to find them anywhere!! There are lots of 100w lamps and i've found 60w 110volts. Don't really want to use a transformer.

The only place you'll get a 60W Mega Ray is from the UK distributor Southwest Exotics Home page., who you'll see is closed for holidays atm, also not sure if they actually have any in stock because there were some problems with the ballasts which have to be converted for UK use.

You know these 60W ones have an external ballast? That means you have a box, very similar to the ballasts that flourescent tubes use, that plugs into the socket then the bulb is connected to that.

It's only the 100W and 160W ones that don't have the separate external ballast.

Unless your setup is particularly small or poorly ventilated (which it shouldn't be of course!) I'd go for either the 100W or the 160W, depending on just how big your setup is.

Set up isn't that small, we thought for a baby tort 100w might be too much but after talking to others apprently not?

So after all this i think (thinks hard) i'm going to get 100w bulb with a clamp lamp - i've seen both on kimbos reptile world website, havent seen any others though!?
