You mean apart from the obvious one bulb instead of two?

Combined bulbs (MVBs) produce a lot more UVB than flourescents, almost equivalent to natural sunlight, and for longer as they can last a couple of years, flourescents need replacing at least every 6 months.

Initial outlay for a MVB is a bit higher but should work out cheaper in the long run.

In all but the most confined situations (like a small viv) where high temps could be a problem, a MVB is generally superior.

I find that the combined bulbs are MUCH more worth it. The difference in my torts was amazing! If money is a problem, then If you work out that a normal UV tube runs out every 6 months, and a normal combined heat and UV bulbs lasts for about 2 years, you get so much more value for money in the long-term.

Don't forget you need the correct holder for it, it must be a ceramic one with heat resistant wiring to withstand the heat of the bulb, they get very hot. And you preferably want a lampshape too, to protect the bulb from accidental damage and to stop you burning yourself on it!
