Default Safe night time temp drop for a Hermann?

I've set up my table in my conservatory but am concerned that the night time temp may be dropping too low (using a digital thermometer the min night time temp was 7degs last night). I've put a box which I'll fill with hemp in the table so will the tort go into this and keep warm enough overnight or do I need to resite my table? Alternatively could I move the tort at night into a smaller table somewhere warmer then back out to the larger table in the day when the lamps are on, or would this confuse/stress it too much?

Obviously this is only a worry for this winter as I will be hibernating next winter when the temps are this low.

I'll be getting 6 month old Hermanns next weekend so want to make sure everything is absolutely right before then... this takes me back to the days when I first had my geckos and did nothing but worry about doing everything right

Is your conservatory heated? I used to keep my tortoises in mine after hibernation and the temps where fine for them. If they have somewhere to dig, then they are sure to be warm enough.

If you are worried about night-time temps, you could always stick a heat mat on the top of their hide (Somewhere they cannot sit ontop of it) and attatch it to a thermostat, so that the temperatures don't go too low.

I would leave your table where it is.

My advise would not be to move the torts about for overnight habitat. They need to cool down and putting them into an overnight temp that may be slightly higher than some day time temps causes confusion as a rule. When a tort goes into it's hide or digs down it is not doing so to keep warm as it is cold blooded, but tather to ward off the danger of any too low temps (sorry if this is what you meant). What I do when the forecast is particularly severe is to leave the door from the tort room (conservatory) open overnight, so they get the overall temps of the house (usually slighter warmer).
Hope this helps.
Don't forget to post pics when you get them

It is recommended that temps should not drop below 10c.

Have you looked on here for set up ideas Marc:

Shelled Warriors :: View topic - Inside enclosures - add your pictures

It doesn't have to be expensive and if you've already got your basking light and uvb in your viv you can reuse them in the table.
