So long as there is a basking spot on a dry area, then shell rot should not present a problem. This only presents when a tortoise cannot get to dry areas, either to hide or bask. My russians have constant access to damp areas throughout the summer and have never presented with shell rot They do however have the choice and this is what it is all about in my opinion.
