The uvb tube says 5.0. I'll be sure to get a 10.0 when I have their new home, and look into the combined lamps.
I've not given them any supplements. Are supplements required?
I'm taking the tortoise to my regular vet.
Well, I think you have already worked out what pet shops know about correct care for tortoises! Nothing at all!

Supplements are essential, calcium and nutrobal, as you have already been advised.

How old are these tortoises and how long have you had them?

I have a regular vet for my dogs, but for tortoises - especially given yours has a problem - you REALLY need to see a vet with experience. Where are you located?

Is this based on her leg problems? Or based on the conditions she's been kept in?

They're 4-5 years old and we bought them when they were babies.

I live in Nottingham. How much more costly are specialist vets? I'm sorry this has to be an issue, but I don't have much say in it as I won't be footing the bill.

Leg problems can be because the tortoise has kidney, bladder problems and added to the mix this tortoise has not had any of the much needed supplements is a REAL cause for concern.

It should not be about the cost, IMO. You could pay for your normal vet to examine the tortoise and not treat it properly and then you would need to pay again to see a specialist tort vet. This tortoise is in dire need of expert advise and help - please, please make sure you take her to a specialist!!

Have you got a list of reptile specialist vets I can look at? Or tell me what I should be searching for? Google isn't coming up with much.

Your tortoise needs to see Hannah Bould - will jolly Sue along to put her address up or a telephone number. I think (from memory?!?) Hannah is in Stoke on Trent..

That's quite a way away. Surely there are local specialist vets?

Just to add. My mum normally feeds the tortoises, and I've just noticed there's a tub of nutrobal at the side of the tank. I can't get in touch with my mum at the minute but I'll be sure to ask if she's been including it in their diet asap.

also worth a note hun that most regular vets actually charge extra for dealing with exotics, i know that i've had that a couple of times in the past.
