Default help plz hermann advise

hi i have a herman in a 4ft viv, no its not good to be in a viv so would it be best to take top off and have open top?

putting sand soil as substatre as read this is best hes got a heat mat and a heat bulb for basking plus a uv tube light please any advise wouosd be great thanks

first off if you're going to keep the viv you need to really flip it on its back so the glass doors are facing upwards then remove these..

if this aint possible then remove the top, and block up the first couple of inches of glass so as to stop any stress on the tort.

second get rid of the heat mat, they're horrendous for torts and can cause rapid dehydration (leading to eventual kidney failure) not to mention burns.


Heat spot should be 30-32 degrees celicus at hte far end, then no heat in the cool end.. also no heat at night.

Also what strength is the uv tube?

got heat mat coz its to cold at night in my front room.

uv bulb is 10.0

it is poss to remove glass just wont see him threw the wood plus there is wood at bottom so he dont get stressed

It's never too cold in a house at night. In the med it gets very cold in spring and autumn. Mine are in the conservatory with no heat at night. It is beneficial for them to have cool temps overnight. Steady temps can be harmful. Do not put basking temps above 30 degrees in a viv environment you will cook him. Basking spot MUST be at one end too and never in the middle as in some vivs.

i just turned viv round, so now hes got a lot mre room and open top.

so do u suggest i turn heat mat off thanks

cant have table,

got dogs that why i turned viv up so like a table, but higher sides.
