Default Hi, I'm new and need advice

Hi I'm new and I need some advice on Tortoises. I love all reptiles and I have always wanted tortoises since ages ago ever since I saw turtles in the pet shop and they were lovely. What's the difference in tortoises and Turtles?
Is there any good sites (including this one ) ?
What's easier for beginners such as my self?

Thanks

Izzie

Unfortunatly americans called most cheliona turtles and to futher confuse things some turles are called tortoise. But that's the rule generally other than mainly box turtles.

In the USA a lot of what we call tortoises are called turtles or land turtles (wood/box turtles we call turtles although not strictly aquatic mind you)... all tortoises and terrapins are part of the turtle family but here's a nice diagram for the names commonly used for different types of turtles in the USA, UK and AU
