what's a terrapin?
A terrapin is a freshwater turtle. In the US you lump freshwater and sea chelonians together and call them all turtles, we reserve the term turtle for sea turtles. Just to confuse things even further many Americans also call tortoises turtles!

i regard only one group as true terrapins and thats the diamond backs , where as red ears, cooters, musks and boxes etc etc i regard as turtles, then tortoises are well tortoises
sea turtles are well there just that

But thats my opinion

What makes a Diamondback a "true terrapin" though? Exactly what attributes define a terrapin or a turtle?

i go on my rule of thumb purley on the latin name of the diamond back malaclemys terrapin.
and as its one of very few species in the family i tend to seclude them seperatley its just my view on things and plus they are nothing like and turle speciesbe it aquatic, semi aquatic or terrestrial .
So thats how i percieve a terrapin whether anyone agrees with me or not i dont really care.
Anyway this is nothing to do with this thread i dont mind if you wanna pm me for my views on chelonia as ive had many years experience working with many different species

[quote=Katiexx;1217330]guys when he said freeze them, he didn't mean put them into a freezer.

He meant don't offer the correct temps for incubation..thus 'freezing' the eggs.

He could have worded it better admittedly but hell i've been having foot in mouth syndrome lately as well[/quote

Oh - why did he not say so then?

I know it's hughly unlikely but I cant think of anything worse than risking an animal hatch then starve to death anyway.

When you chuck them they break

he answered a few quotes with 'yeah so it freezes them' or similar, so came across as that was what he meant.

that depends on if she 1) lays fertile eggs and 2) if you actually want to incubate them so they hatch.
