As you may have seen i am just settng up my tort table. I've been tld by the breeder that a combined UV/heat lamp wil be too strong for hatchlings and have been advised to get a separate UV and heat lamp.

I want to put the UV bulb into a desk lamp fixture if possible so it looks tidy.

Do the screw in UV bulbs exist?

Afaik all UVB compacts are screw fit, I've never seen a bayonet one.

seen these on ebay they are called d3 uv bulbs priced around £23 i think

Exo Terra Reptio Glo compacts are cheaper than that, I pay about £18.95 for 10% ones on eBay including delivery.

Are you sure this is a breeder? Has he ever been to the Med
The screw in Arcadia bulbs are not really very good. I use them as stand by lamps but they MUST be mounted horizontally to give maximum light and they MUST have a burn in period as they emit to much uvb at the very beginning.

That's where the Exo Terra ones are better, because of their spiral shape they can be mounted horizontally or vertically, just like a normal lightbulb.

Have to say I wondered about that comment about MVBs being too strong, they emit a similar level of UVB to natural sunlight, and what do wild baby torts live in? Natural sunlight!

Just going to have a look on ebay for some Exo terra ones, have possible babies due in a few weeks

I use the 10% 13W ones which are quite adequate for smaller turt tanks.

I use the combine bulbs for all my tortoises and find them brilliant.
