you can do, just make sure it's aired before anything goes in obviously. when you can no longer smell it its safe.or at least thats what i was told lol

Yes i used wood glue as well as screws to help give a very tight seal then when the glue was dry the next day I gave it 2 coats(3 might be better but i was impatient) of Yacht Varnish,give a whole day or two between coats and then I left it for another 3 days to totaly dry out and for the fumes etc to go.No less than 3 days I would recomend leaving it,a few more is even better.
