How was I contradicting you? You said the aim was to provide a hot spot rather than a gradient..yet both is true.
You need a hot spot for basking. but equally you need a thermal gradient for the tort to choose the correct temperature. Also jason went on to say which was correct, and couldn't be interpreted incorrectly really could it?

![]() I was told that it should treat like you would a plant pot. It needs to be damp but not saturated. so if it strats to dry out get out your watering can and givet a little sprinkle

nice one andy youre doin a good job mate, are you getting a lamp with a clamp on so you can attach it to the side of youre table.
I made mines using an old exo terra waterbowl which i drilled a whole in then screwed a piece of 2x1 timber through the hole as an upriright and another piece at 90 degrees to that piece 2 ft up ( like an upside down L shape) and used a ceramic lightfitting suspended from it with a 100w reflector spot on it. Looked quite good and wouldnt go anywhere as the large exo terra rock effect water bowls wiegh a ton, it also acted as a food bowl .
