I got bored with reading this by page 20, so if this has been said before I apologise!
I think people are getting their temps mixed up as some are putting them down as centigrade and others are in farenhiete.
My first tort was kept in a viv with a heat mat underneath, fed incorrectly, not hibernated etc... Yep I listened to what the pet shop said, I trusted them to know the right things. A year later I was told to change things to what tort people class as the norm... Tort table, weed only diet, no heat at night and hibernated.
The first 18 months I had him he grew too quickly due to wrong diet and too much heat. And to cut a long story short, he has been in a tort table for over 4 years now and acts differently... Well I say in a tort table, he is outside in a huge enclosure most of the time, and of course hibernating during the winter.
I am not going to say why he is better in a tort table, but I know he is, he acts differently. In my mind a tort table/outdoor enclosure is much more natural, and if we are going to keep animals we should keep them as naturally as we can. Saying we shouldn't keep them in this country is daft as they are already here, so we have to do what is the most natural for them.
