Think of what would happen in the wild, no-one washes their bums. Allow to dry naturally too.

when they have a bath I just leave them to it so to speak, don't do anything to them. I noticed on shelled warriors shop on ebay tho they sold a brush for cleaning the torts at bath time..which baffled me

SW soft tortoise cleaning brush lid, tortoises, rabbit on eBay, also, Reptiles, Pet Supplies, Home Garden (end time 03-Feb-08 18:31:32 GMT)

I would only scrub, gently, the shells of tortoises with shell damage. If the tortoise is not suffering from shell rot then there is no need to scrub the shell and certainly not their bums!

The brushes that i sell (link above) are very very soft so do no damage at all.
When i bath my tortoises i place them in the bath and if they have a dirty bum as most do, i use these brushed to gently remove the dirt or poo.

Why did it baffle you?

Why wouldn't it? No one to wipe their arse in the wild..it's akin to cleaning a snake mouth out. Fine when it has mouthrot or an RI but I don't brush the little fella teeth evertime I bathe them!

It's labour for labours sake.
