Default New Keepers - Tips

On this thread you can add tips to give to new keepers. As a new keeper myself I sometimes found it very confusing to understand what some of you were on about. So try and keep it simple and to the point!
All replies welcome no-matter how small.
I look forward to reading all your replies and picking up some new tips.

I guess I'll start...

"Med Tort's need a basking spot of about 30*C with a cool end in the low twenties."

Get posting Guys.

I reccomend finding a good tortoise vet in ADVANCED before buying your tortoise- you can usually find a good one within two hours drive of you if you ask around. Always make sure you get reccomendation from someone experienced when finding a vet, and remember not all "exotics experts" are as they say.

Make sure that the substrate is deep enough to allow thermoregulation, or in burrowing species such as horsfields deep enough to support this.
