African spur thighed = sulcata which these are definately not.

They are a mederrterrainean spur thighed of some sort. Not any good on med spur thighs so couldn't tell you what sort. Below is an African spur thighed (sulcata).

I'm awful at 'name that tortoise' but I would guess some type of Greek Spur Thighed.

Not saying that you're wrong, but you are aware that in the animal world males bonk males and females bonk females aren't you? At least they all 'go through the motions', whether they're the correct sexed pairs or not!

Yes, hence we have Steve the redfoot who is actually a girl. We saw mating activity, eggs were laid, just it was the same tortoise doing both! Took a clutch or two for us to realise!

By the way, I have no opinion on whether the ones being discussed are either - just that it can be confusing!

Jason

Bearing in mind Spur-thighed torts (T. graeca) are found throughout Africa north of the sahara. T avoid confusion I refer to G. sulcata as 'sulcatas' or 'african spurred torts'
