if you are looking for a small and easy to look after turtle get a map turtle and if you are wanting it small try to get a male as they dont grow as big
preloved.co.uk have a few free to a good home or did have.
map turtles are a good starting point for new turtle owners as they are easy to look after
a few river rocks make a good substrate and are easier to clean out than gravel. a few plants a heater a basking area and you are sorted

......don't forget a decent external filter and lights to raise the basking area to 90-95F and provide UVB. Male maps would be quite good turtles for someone wanting a turtle that doesn't get huge, but females do get large, up to about 11" and maps are more sensitive to water quality. Even for a Male map you're looking at minimim tank size of 200L.
