For the new keeper I always recommend the T-rex tortoise diet. It will provide all your tortoises nutritional needs. Then you can just add the odd weeds to provide a little variety. You would feed this slightly moistened.

It's a pelleted diet formulated specifically for tortoises. It was formulated by and animal nutritionist as a complete diet but it is usually recommended to be fed with greens to add variety.

Some people don't like the use of formulated diets because they believe it is not natural.

Here are 2 posts which pretty much covers my position on the topic. The diet I use is Mazuri but the t-rex diet is very similar.

I'll stick to the natural diet, I have turned his lamp off now, and I'll go hunting for dandilions tomorrow! are they out this time of year in the uk? Also...... Is there more common flowers that they eat aswell?

I'll read your two links in a sec, and re-consider the diet.. But Id rather stay natural tbh...

Hi you probably will not see the actual dandelion flowers about yet but you should find plenty of dandelion leaves about. There are lots of other weeds too.

You can buy a wide range of weed seeds so you can grow your own but in the mean time you should be able to find dandelions around, wash them well.

Heres a link to buy the seeds..
