Is the tortoise acting normally... cruising around... hunting... eating... drinking... self regulating...? If yes... he's fine.

When i first had my tortoise his eye used to do the same, it would open slower than the other and did seem a little puffy, but the actual eye itself looked fine, i took him to a vet and they said that it was fine. It did go down after a few months and he's never had any problems since. I think as long as there is no discharge then it's fine!

Hi
If theres no discharge or swelling then just monitor it. One of my one year olds had a swollen eye last year. We think he had knocked it on something. There was a bit of a mark above his eye. He took to staying in the hide as he was obviously scared as he couldn't see out of it. We took to bathing his head in very slightly salted water and getting his eye open. We also put newspaper under the house so he couldn't dig down and get muck in it. It cleared up fine. Don't know if the washes helped or if he just had a tortoise black eye that would have sorted itself out. Keeping the soil and stuff out of his eye was a precaution too. Baldricks doesn't look swollen. Just telling you what happened with mine last year. Keep watching it and keep rinsing it. It doesn't look worrying from the picture but obviously vigilance is key. |
