Default Eating..

Okay so I have had a few threads for my questions now.. Sorry I'm still learning and have lots of questions to ask.. My horsefield tortoise which I have owned for 2 days still has not eaten, he was offerd 10 dandilion leaves today and lots of veg last night, he nibbled at the cucumber but nothing more.. I am new to tortoise keeping and I'm worried.. Should I try the ready made pellets? I have been warned against them and I really wanted to try for a natural diet.. Im at college but mum said he still has not eaten.. Should I get some pellets from this big town im at or wait another day? Because If you guys turn around and say the pellets are good later today I wont be able to get them till later next week.. :/

He'll eat when he's hungry, he won't intentionally starve himself, he's probably a little scared of the new surroundings. Mine didn't eat for almost a week.

Just keep a supply of food and water there and when you're not watching it will probably disappear. If he's not used to lots of human contact this may also scare him, try not to bother him for a few hours, i know it's hard cos they're soooo cute but give it a go.

Carley's advice is exactly the advice I would have given. He's been moved from familiar surroundings, was probably with others before he came to you, you've changed his enclosure again... all those things will have stressed him slightly. Keep an eye on him but try to let him settle in now. Keep feeding and bathing though.

Just thought... one more thing, make sure your temps are high enough otherwise he won't eat.

The choice is yours to make...either way... as I think you have just got him...he will probably eat in a couple of days...he needs to settle in.

Try feeding him after a bath..that often helps...most importantly...give him some space.

Sorry guys, I was just being over-worried, I come home from college and he's eaten most of the dandilion leaves, and I just watched him munching on lettuce and grated carrot!
