Cool Thermostats

Hi, Im about to invest in a thermostat.
I have two set in my sights, the CHT025 HABISTAT PULSE PROP DAY/NIGHT 600W and the CHT030 HABISTAT DIMMING THERMOSTAT 600W.
My current setup is with a 100w light bulb. Im quite happy with this, but I can quite happily move to a ceramic bulb and use the UV for all his lighting needs.
Has anyone got any pro's/cons to either of there?
At the moment during the day im keeping the temp at 95 deg F using the 100W light bulb. This keep it 75ish deg F at the cool end too. So im basically getting a Thermostat for the evenings when I turn the light off. So would a CHT010 HABISTAT TEMPERATURE THERMOSTAT 300W be ok because I do have a heat matt too, and that keeps the temp up at night. At the moment, my heat matt is on a timer, its on for an hour, off for an hour from 11pm until 7am.

You cant use a thermostat with a mercury vapor lamp (UVB bulb)... well... you can but it won't work properly. The lamp has to be full on or full off.

The thermostat would work perfectly with the heat mat though.

My plan was to put the ceramic on the thermo and just have the UV 10.0 tube on all day.

At the moment the 100W bulb keeps my warm side of the viv at 95deg F happily. The other side of the viv happens to stay at 70-75 Deg F. I see this as being plain lucky as I made the viv myself. The only time I worry about the temperature is at night. I have a heat matt but my tort loves to dig down and sit on it. Im sure if it got too hot he/she would move. This is why I thought ceramic bulb as it gives off little light and can keep a moderate temperature during the evening.

Can't you just use a heat lamp and put it high up until the temps are right?

From what I have read 95 and 75 are correct temps during the day, its just when its bed time at the moment I have a heat matt on a timer. On for an hour, off for an hour. This also makes it really humid, like 90% humid!

i have a habistat with a ceramic bulb on my table and i dont see any prob with using a ceramic and thermostat, it can be used to ensure that your temperatures are kept right all day and night

I'd go for a ceramic heater and a day/night dimming thermostat. Tortoise can't climb on it and get too hot and you can set separate day and night temperatures and at what times you want each. Then the UV goes on a timer.

I don't know much about heat mats. Is yours a constant heat or can it be adjusted to a lower heat for the night? I still prefer the ceramic though.

If your set up is on an open top table and in a house I do not think you will need one. Just adjust the height of your bulb. I use the habiatat pp in my sheds(as this is an enclosed space) they are great on non light heat sources.
