I've just noticed the microchip on one of my females starting to work it's way back out through the skin. Has anyone else had a problem?
I've heard stories about these things migrating to other parts of the body but have not had any problems before. If this continues to work it's way out I'm just going to remove it and put it to one side. I've always considered this microchipping of Tortoises to be barbaric and will only get microchipping done when absolutely necessary. I won't be having this stray one replaced. I should add that this particular Tortoise was microchipped about four years ago. Last edited by jms; 25-02-2008 at 03:57 PM. |

I have no intentions of replacing it, in fact I have heard that some vets don't actually insert the microchip, but just hand it to the owner with the relevant numbers to enable the article 10 to be changed to a s.s.c. I'm keeping the leg bathed to keep the skin soft and applying betadine, looking at it this morning, it will be completely removeable very soon. |
