They are a chemicals company breaking into the UK pet reptile products market. Do they really know about reptiles? Are surrey pet supplies any good?

I'm not slagging them off but I just see lots of products with a nice label and little info so far. Like not everything we buy in the supermarkets is good for us. Just need to be careful before we buy stuff I suppose.

Surrey Pet Supplies are great, they're my local shop and I buy all my turt food and pinkies there, but they're only a stockist for these products, nothing to do with the company otherwise I don't think.

Maybe you can ask them for a bit more info next time you go there then?

TBH I doubt they'll know much more than what's on the pack, they're just a shop after all, but I may be going there in the morning so I'll try to remember to ask.

'Just a shop' but dont they have a responsibilty for the effects or non-effects of products they make profits from?

To an extent yes I suppose they do, but it would be unrealistic to expect them to have tested every one of the thousands of product lines they stock (have you looked at their site, the range is huge!). And with a product such as this one testing would take such a long time, and it's doubtful whether any tangible results would emerge unless such tests were performed under the strictest laboratory conditions.
I don't suppose they get to pick and choose exactly which products they stock anyway, the manufacturer will expect them to stock an entire range or none at all, I'm sure any of the shop owners here will tell you that.
But as I said if I go I'll try to remember to ask, just don't expect encylopedic knowledge of the product from a checkout girl!

Sorry Graham - I'm in a bit of a 'mood' tonight but I have a turtle in my charge that is purely a result of petshops stocking items that 'sell' rather than worrying about the long term consequences for the animal or the owner. Any pet shop ownwer that really cares about animals should make efforts to investigate the products it sells - thats Trade Decriptions Act if nothing else. Hopefully Surrey Pet Supplies are a nice outfit BUT i want to know more about this product and that seems to be a 'secret'.

Not sure about it being a secret, but if you really want to know more about it an email to the manufacturer's UK offices is probably your best bet http://www.beaphar.co.uk/, they should be able to give you much more info than a simple retailer could.
