There's no way a single person could pull an adult burmese python off themselves if caught in a feeding response bite. That's exactly why the rule is to never handle these snakes alone. Also the cold water thing fails time after time,it may be ok for getting a king snake off your hand as you can hold it underwater long enough to force it to let go for air,but how the hell do you do that with 16ft and 200lbs of snake that is actively squeezing the breathe from your body? Listening to your advice could cost someone their lives, good job! ![]() |

fantastic cae sheet, glad my burm has all your suggesting!
and a ditty for the guys suggesting cold baths, handling alone etc.....i know of an american lass (quite large!) who's 9ft burm got her at night, and her 14 stone boyfriend tried unravelling it, and a cold bath, but when the lass passed out decided that beheading was his next option.... so, if you wanna die, or behead your large burm, dont take the risk! If these monsters decide your food, they take a hell of alot of convincing otherwise! great sheet again! |

Crackin caresheet, do you mind if I make it available in my shop to anyone interested in burms? Cold baths lmao, all the best there, I had an issue with a pair of macklotts and had both of them on me at once, and my 'second person' was useless, tried water tried alcohol gel, tried a lot, one almost crushed wrist and a dislocated shoulder later I got to the pub for the night out I was late for with people asking why I was bruised and sweating like a glassblowers arse!

Just like to add a little point about sectioning viv's. If you have the option to block off one end of the viv using a piece of sliding wood it makes it possible to change water and partially clean a viv with only one person. It's basically what they do for large dangerous animals in zoo's. Just a tip for anyone wondering about getting help in everyday. Obviously any direct contact with a huge snake requires atleast another person for your safety.

i made a schoolboy error (when i was little more than a schoolboy i may add) and had fed my 13/14 ft retic his rabbits and was putting his water bowl back in later that day, he was the opposite side of the viv and coiled happily digesting his meal, i got distracted for a split second, and he struck and coiled my arm/hand, i was about 18/19 years old and tbh i was a bit
!!My girlfriend at the time ran downstairs and told my dad i needed help as the 'big snake had got him' it took her ages to convince him she wasnt joking as id kept large snakes for years!!! he eventually came up and as id been struggling to get him off for ..probably 2 or 3 mins he was squeezing very tight, my dad unwound the snake starting near the tail and when the head became visable tipped half a bottle of whiskey over its head, he loosed straight away and i stood up and got away...was a very scary situation, and the worse thing was when i looked at my hand... it was pure white, there was no blood in my hand at all, just some cuts where he had bitten but as he had squeezed so tight it just looked like puckered skin, then the blood rushed back into my hand and it gushed out.... i lost the use of my little finger for quite some time as it had damaged the tendons however ther worse part about it all.....im now a paramedic and take patients to the A&E dept very regular..the same old nurse who looked after me 15/16 years ago still calls me snakebite boy...and makes me feel like a naughty schoolboy!!!!! hahahahahah Snakes eh...dont we just love em!!!! |
