Default Western Hognose (Heterodon nasicus)

Uh, decided on writing a caresheet.

Name: Western Hognose
Family: Heterodon
Location: Western Parts of America
Enviroment: Sandy landscapes, burrowed.
Level: Intermediate (Due to having to tame them down from a hatchling and being rear fanged.)

Temperment?
Hognoses, are quite placid snakes if they have been tamed down.
Hatchlings are rather hissy and pretend to be cobras. They're more likely to headbutt you rather than actually bite though!
But, if the Hognose is not tamed down, it is likely bite and they are rear fanged. So there is a chance, it's venom will hit you.

Just to add:

Before, the Hognose will try to strike. It'll go onto it's back and play dead. It'll let out a gas to make it smell dead, to scare off predators.

Size?
Hognoses on average grow to around 3-4ft. (Females larger than males)

Diet?

In the wild, Hognoses would feed off small frogs and lizards. But in captivity, they can be fed off a variety of rodents. Although known to be fussy eaters, people have tried frog scenting the pinkies, as it's their innate instinct to pick up this scent and recognise it with food.

Housing?
Hoggies, don't get long but get fat. Very much like Blood Pythons.
3x2x2 vivarium would be a suitable size for an AF. (Adult Female).

Through experiance, I'd have the substrate as Aspen, with a hide in the warm end, a hide in the middle and water bowl in the middle. In the cool side, using a litter tray or a RUB, glue bottle tops to the bottom of the tray, and fill it it play sand. (Bottle tops stop it from crushing the hoggie when he's all nice and dug under.)

I've found my Hognoses to love it and constantly dig in there.

This is just a simple guide for beginners.

Thanks.

3-4ft!!!?! the biggest i have ever seen is just under 3ft and a VERY old female! 2-3ft would be the norm with most males rarely even reaching 2ft...and as said, what about temps humidity etc? and the feigning death BEFORE biting is not true either...tbh the death pose is hardly ever used by CB hognoses in my experience....if anyone is wanting hognoses and looking for a care guide i would buy a good book and take a lot of this with a pinch of salt..
