Hello, I'm a first time poster and a very new snake owner (I just got my first corn 3 weeks ago). Well... I was told he ate 2 pinkies a week, and when I went in to get his first feed I got a small fluffy as it was within the 1 1/2 times of the thickest part of his body that I'd been told by other people was fine. Anyways, he munches that one down fine, but I only found a few wee bits of black poo's in the tank over the week (being a new owner still not sure what proper snake poo should look like). So, the 2nd feed comes round and I had to get the fluffy out a different place, but he didn't eat it (I wondered if maybe it smelled/tasted different), 3 days later I got another one from the place I got him from and tried it but he's still not eating it.
Tonight I got him out the viv (he's been hiding and being anti-social see) and he seems to have a hard lump at the top of his stomach (furry skull maybe?), so am wondering if he's not finished digesting the first feed I gave him. Can anyone help me? I did research before I got him but theres some things that I didn't seem to find anywhere (like the poo thing)... Oh, and hes about a foot n a half and not that old. Thanks Mich x |

My Desert King Snake (8 yrs old) hasnt eaten in over 2 months!! How worried should I be?? I will follow the tips given above and hope I have some success. He is not due to shed and seems to be happy with his surroundings. I have also started to get mice from a different source.

i had one years ago that went about 7 months without eating, regurged any attempt to feed with mice or rats. had a baby gerbil that the parents rejected, it died of not being fed anyway so i tried the snake with it, just poped the head into his mouth and jaws snapped shut and off he went.... i had to breed black gerbils just for him, and killed them of course..... just an idea for any royal owners.....

Yesterday, i rescued two corn snakes from an owner that was very poorly treating them. When i picked them up there was rotting mice in the corner where they had just been flung into their viv, and poo just everywhere. So i took them home, and settled them in nicely, and they seem to be acting fine, but when i tried feeding them, they wouldnt take. Their fully grown, and should be taking large mice, but even when fully defrosted in hot water and then dried, and dangled infront of them, they refuse to take it and jerk away, almost like their scared. Im not sure whether they arent eating because they are in a new environment and havent settled in, or assosiate the smell of mice now with how they have been treated, but neither of them want to eat. I tried again this morning and still nothing. Has anyone got any logical suggestions? |

If you have not tried already i guess you could try braining the mice corns are quite hot for the smell of mouse brains.
Perhaps they are not used to strike feeding maybe.. if you have them seperated of course leave them a mouse each for an hour or so during active time (early evening - dusk) and see if they take it? |
