Since the success of my last care sheet i thought i would post one i have done for jungle carpets.

Jungle Carpet Python Care Sheet:

The Jungle Carpet Python (Jcp) is found in eastern queensland in Australia and have the smallest geographic distribution of any carpet python species.

Baby jungles often hatch out at around the 10-14 inch mark, and an average size of a adult Jcp can be around 5- 6ft although few can reach lengths of 7ft+.


The Jungle Carpet has an arrange of colours from white greyish with black brownie bands to the more sought after ‘High Yellow’ jungles which can be bright yellow and Black bands.

Husbandry:

The Jcp is in my opinion is a semi-arboreal snake and most of the time I will see my jungles happily coiled around a branch looking at me.
Baby jungles should be housed separately in either a small plastic vivarium with climbing facilities or a very small wooden vivarium no bigger than 12inch long and 6inch wide.

As they get older Jungle Carpets can be placed in larger arboreal vivariums such as 3ftx3ftx2ft although housing a 5ft jungle carpet in a 3x2x2 is acceptable.

As the Jungle Carpet python is a semi –arboreal snake be sure to place enough branches for you jcp to climb on, and you will find adding a bit of greenery will make you vivarium really stand out.

The temperature in your vivarium should be around 88f in the hot spot with a gradient temperature of around 80f, there should also be a night time drop of around 5-10f.

Humidity for this species should be kept around the 50/60% mark.
A good size water bowl with fresh water should always be made available for your Jungle Carpet Python.

You can use several substrates with paper being the favourite amongst breeders and hobbyists as it is easy to clean and also cheap to buy.
If you would like to make your vivarium more natural like then you can use an arrange of substrates like cork or bark chippings.

Feeding you Jungle Carpet python can be sometimes tricky when they are a hatchlings but once they get in to a routine prove very good eaters.
Hatchlings should be fed on fluffs and once they stat to grow should be offered weaner rats and then eventually larger rats, jungle carpets are renowned for sometimes being picky with rats and will only eat mice meaning they do not grow as big but if you can get them on to rats earlier that will help them grow and they tend to be less fussy.

Conclusion:

In my opinion Jungle carpets are a very rewarding snake it you are thinking of getting into pythons or would like a display animal.
There size and characteristics prove to be very popular in the hobby with many morphs being bought out every year such as the Jungle/Jag and Irian Jaya/jag.
Babies can often be a bit snappy but with regular handling they prove to be a nice snake to handle.
If you like keeping Jungle Carpets then there are many other types of carpet pythons for you to keep including the Coastal, Irian Jaya and Jaguar.

Good caresheet there but personally a 3 x 2 x 2 even a 3 x 3 x 2 is far to small for adult jungle carpet pythons. Ours are very active and are in our adult carpet cages which are 60” x 30” x 36” but as a minimum is say a minimum of 4 x 2 x 2.

I prefer larger cages but each to there own.

i disagree 3x2x2 is a good size for a jungle carpet python

Thanks for the comments, ultimate_boides i understand were you are comming from and you are right in saying each to there own but i have never had a problem with keeping a 5ft adult jcp in a 3*2*2.

I'd 2nd that motion, i turn my 3ft/2/2's up on end so its 3ft high, screw fix some branches in place and this seems to keep them content.

Yeah 3x2x2 alwys worked for me.. 4x2x2 as well, never tried a 6x2x2.. seems a lot of viv for a JCP.. they are long but quite skinny, I keep my boa in a 6x2x2.

i have a 5ft irian jaya cross coastal carpet in a 4 x 2 x2

hes not fully grown yet so that wil be worked on and changed if needs be...

he really has changed since i moved him up size.. he moves much better his body tone is more muscley and hes far far stronger..
he climbs and moves round the branches and im glad i used this size.

0.1 Wd, 1.1 snakes, 1.0 APH, 2.2 Kittys and some fish

6*2*2 is probably to big for a normally junlge, this isze would be ok for a coastal carpet but i think this size viv would be a little too big for pure jungles.
