best thing i have heard to do is put it in a cold bath and it will let go, i know one women that had a rectic and would always run the bath before handling him lo

it is a very real threat that all keepers of large constictors NEED to concider before purchase. even a 10' boa can do damage, an would need 2 people, or one extremaly strong person to handle safely.

if my burm did go nasty, i would get a big box, or dustbin, and get myself and a few others to put it in their when the time for mantinance arrives. i'd get the head, (with hook if necassary) and the others can over power the body, or at least match the strength, and i'd focas all my efforts on the head. when its in the bin, the latches are locked. putting it back would be simple, in theory, tip it out of the bin, and into the viv. (IN THEORY!)
do you own a snake because you can pull a burm off you have to put the head under cold water to make them let go

the burmese python does not need a 4foot high viv, this is what i will use in the future, but is not necissary. they would also be happy in a 3 foot depth, but i reccomend 4 foot for extra space. this is a matter of preference though.
well i have a 4 foot cage and need it bigger as a burm must have the room to coil after they have feed. my female burm is 17ft long and females grow up to 19 ft and live for 30yrs

Tell you what, have fun pulling off your 17 foot burmese, when it is Constricting you, on your own.

If you choose to use a bath ful of cold water, since a bucket won't really do the trick The i think you'd have a high chance of Drowning.

If it is constricting (Not merely biting) they you will need more than one person.

It too a second person to pull an 8 foot boa off of me.

If it is only biting then thats fine, but snakes GENRALLY do one of two things, and i have found this true for every python i have met.

They will bite in defence, when they usually let go immidiatly, or after a few seconds, Or they bite as a feeding responce, and will constrict.

If it is the former, you are ok, if it is the latter, then your in trouble.

I would also like you to prove your comments regarding 19foot. The record is 26 foot, and i can prove this.

As for age, the oldest RELIABLE report is 23 years. I have never read a confirmed repot of over 30 personally but can belive it.

Not my comments are followed by a disclaimer that this information is my own view, and any comments should be sent to the e-mail, rather than posting negative comments on my threads.

Thanks
Dan

Good luck with that one! Especially when it's full grown and you have to carry it to a tap/readily full bath while wrapped up, note here that the heaviest captive snake on record was a burmese python!!. Yes Dan has much experience with snakes and it's a good caresheet IMO

just something for the people around wondering about getting them off if they attack due to there heat pits a cheap spray bottle with some cheap rum or something similar is good as it upsets them and they let go straight away. i have not tested this but have read and heard from several places. always another one to keep in mind hopefully not one i would have to worry about.
