I've been reading many things about diseases recently just out of interest, and I'm not a biologist or a vet and I've never seen a snake with IBD in the flesh, but as for the ibd virus being airborne recent things I read suggests that it's not the case.

I think that when it was first diagnosed in the early 70's people thought it could be airborne, so everyone assumes it is to this date. Apparently there is no evidence that it could be airborne and as in literature people have kept contaminated boas in the same room with other boas and pythons without any cross-contamination, provided that the keeper was very carefull about his hygene, etc.

As for WC, this shop sells loads of WC all the time. They might be able to order whatever you want

i dont know how ibd transmits, and i should have added that my figure of 80% is a rough guide. im a beginner to this, and i was told about ibd from my local rep shop, he said it's best to get WC especialy for breeding and doesn't go near CB because of it. im not sure where i remember getting the 80% figure, it might of been from a book or the rep shop.
i just don't like the risks.
snakes & adders might do them ,they haven't go any in now but i'll check later

If you look at their website they have other WC species, but they don't update the website that often. So you could give them a ring and tell waht you're interested in, because even if they don't have in stock they can order for you.

As far as I'm concern they always treat their WC for mites, worms and parasites, so it's just my suggestion

80% of all CB boa's either have or carry IBD? Thats a ridiculous figure, sorry but that I find very hard to believe indeed. If that were the case with the amount of boa keepers on this forum there would be cases cropping up every few weeks on here. There would be bedlam.Sorry,no way 80%

I have no idea where you got this crazy idea that 80% of all CB boas have IBD ... thats BULL ! I've been working with CB reptiles for over 25 years and know hundreds of boa breeders, certainly nearly all the big breeders very well and I've never heard anything like this before. I can only imagine someone has given you or you have read some misinformation. Yes, you can find IBD in some boas (and in many other snakes as well) yes some collections can have it and many wouldn't know, but if it was even a quarter of the problem you suggest it is, hundreds more people would know about it as we would have thousands of dead snakes ! Sorry, you have been misinformed as to the size of the problem ... I would suggest its around 1% not anywhere near 80% ! More snakes die from stupid keepers not knowing how to look after their animals (bad husbandry issues). As for WC snakes, you have far more potential problems there. Most are full of parasites, never mind the stressed out condition which can make them much harder to breed. I would suggest if you are concerned about IBD you find a couple of breeders, go and see their set up and talk with their clients. Once you are happy their snakes are healthy, go with that option.

cheers, John

I read in a Boa Constrictor book recently that IBD is specific to Boas only and is yet to be found in Pythons? Is this not true then?

apart from all of the above, most of the dwarf boas(particularly insular dwarfs) are now rigorously protected and therefore not collected or exported any more,so most of the interesting dwarf boas will not be available as WC.
