Default wanted; WC Boa species

hi, i am building up a breeding collection entirely of boa species; rainbows, dwarfs, trees. but due to ibd, i am only willing to build the collection in wild caught animals, so there is no risk to the animal or the rest of my collection.
it is mainly the dwarf boas that i want WC in.
so if anyone has some or knows how to get them could you let me know? thanks

One would assume that IBD is a very rare occurence, and there are thousands of boa keepers in the UK that never had heard of IBD.

Have you experienced any problems or heard of any cases recently that caused you concerns ?

They certainly can,not to mention any number of other problems that come along with any WC specimens.

80% of all captive bred boas have IBD, its like snake aids and man made, their either got it or a carrier of it. i know of breeders who have had massive collections completely wiped out because of IBD. but wild caught very rarely have it cause its been created through captive breeding (dont ask me how, i just know its man made)
so id prefer to have a few extra bites but clean snakes rather than risk getting captive bred and having just 1 that will wipe them all out, then you have to kill that 1 as well.
IBD snakes can live perfectly healthy lives so long as they are no where near any other snakes but once you know 1s got IBD you gotta kill it

Not starting a debate here, but do you have any figures to back up this claim?

I personally don't belive that 80% of the CB snakes are carriers. It's certainly a much larger number than people think, but because people avoid to comment, you'd have to ask a vet since they are the ones who end up treating the snakes and seeing cases on a daily basis.

Trouble is that one of the IBD carriers is thought to be a type of mites. Most cases of people who found mites in their collection didn't know until they noticed a change in behaviour of their snakes.

So mites could come in other reps that he might add to his collection, apparently they can come in certain substrates and could be carried on your clothes if you handle a snake that has mites in a shop or friend's house, not knowing that the snake had mites.

So in theory, a WC could end up being cross-contaminated with IBD, because once it's taken from wild, they will be exposed to same diseases than a CB snake is.

I'm not against WC snakes TBH, I was just intrigued that normally someone wanting a WC just because of fear of getting IBD is probably because he had traumas, and I'm always interested in learning from people's experiences.

By the way, talking to my vet the other day, she said that it's not true that once you have one snake infected your whole collection will be wiped out. She said that she had cases of IBD where the owner never suspected and never had any cases since.

Apparently the main issue is about hygene, making sure you wash / desinfect your hands between handling different snakes and not housing snakes together.

By the way, I always heard the IBD can only be diagnosed in a post-mortem using tissue samples. Only blood sample is not enough. So that claim would be very hard to be backed up, because you'd have to wait till a large number of snakes die and get checked before you can have any conclusive figures.

However I'd love to see official stats from vets in regards to causes of death in boas. That would be great, but I doubt anyone would ever have interest in doing such research.

Surely if it's 80% and airborne like it's said to be then most places and people wouldn't have boas and pythons, i keep boas in the same room as my pythons and yes they're dealt with last but surely if it's airborne all my pythons should've been dead at least 2yrs back when i got the last lot of boas?
