Default WANTED: Green Anaconda hatchling

ok, my bf has finally lost it and wants to take the plunge. He wants to know if anyone has any hatchlings that look like they have the potential to be quite handleable throughout adulthood too lol, if there is any such thing as a handleable green anaconda!

This has come about due to he saw 2 at Doncaster and has regretted not having one ever since.

It has to be male. Thanks

When is the soonest you can BOTH get to our house in mansfield?

Having met the both of you (he REALLY won't be able to work it on his own in a year or two, you need someone else stood by) I honestly would recommend waiting a while (as in a year or two) before going for an anaconda.

Reason I ask is i'm pretty sure he won't have any.much expereince of big contrictors, while I don't have an anaconda here I do have several snakes that will show you the kind of size, weight, length and attitude that a gree conda will attain over the first 1-4 years of it's life. I also have plenty of snakes that will take chunks out of you and i'm pretty sure most of your lot are pretty calm. Finding a CALM young green is very very hard, almost impossible and anyone who sells you a conda that "looks like it'll stay calm" just don't know the species. condas tend to develop their attitude wirth age, the larger they become the more confident they become. you soon stop looking so threatening and start looking like something to be scared off.

Bring both yourselves over here. It's just plain stupid to buy a large constrictor when you've never handled anything over 5-8ft. You'll get a bit of experience/a bit of an eye opened and we'll also see how well laddo (and you?) deal with snappy snakes. you just cannot bank on a calm conda, if you buy a conda you have to accept it could be a complete S.O.B it's entire life and at 8-14ft for males thats quite a handful!

Please please please please come see me before buying an anaconda, I really don't think it would be fair on yourselves or the snake buying one now.

Default Neonate anacondas

Hi Jenn

I have some neonate green anacondas for sale all of which are very tame.I think the advice mason gave you about large constrictors is very sensible however his description of anacondas is misguided. I dont actually know how much experience mason or many other people who claim anacondas are incredibly aggressive have but i can tell you that from keeping green anacondas for over 20 years and having kept over 50 specimins this is simply not true. Many wild caught animals bite, this is normal in all snake species and as most anacondas encountered here are wc they tend to bite. However i have never encountered one that did not become tame through handling although this is not the same for yellow anacondas which tend to be much more nervous.Mason also suggested they got worse with age? Im sorry but once a snake is used to being handled it dosent become more aggressive,i can only think that as some snakes get bigger some people get scared of them and so avoid handling them which would of course lead to a snake reacting when it was finally handled. Finally a male green anaconda is not a giant snake, as an adult they only attain the size of about a large female boa constrictor. I have never seen a 12ft male let alone 14ft one,in fact 14ft is the size of an average adult female. Most males max out around 11ft and between 20-30kg,so in terms of size male and female greens are like a different species.Anyway i have a large number of tame babies that i bred myself from a very tame mother so if you are interested please contact me.
Thanks Dan

While you have a passion for a species which I admire and share, albeit with a different species would you honestly recommend a green anaconda, even a CB one which you must admit the vast majority are not, to a keeper of tegus, small colubrids and a young (i think?) dumerils.

I mean no disrespect by this to them or you, they are coming over to my place on saturday for some handling work etc with large snakes if they want it as I think they have none. I assume these are questions you'd ask before selling someone an anaconda? Surely your anacondas are not that far removed form how so many act that they are predictable enough to be treated like any snake or should they always be trested like you'd treat a retic or big scrubbie?

I'm not saying i'm right or you're wrong. I'm not saying all anacondas are the same. In context of the thread and who posted it though I stand by it. They are far from suitable for everyone, as are the snakes which hold an equally important place in my life. I was advising a person i've met however breifly about something that I know a little about and I know, in the context of this situation to be right in at least my point if not in all my prose!

Jen has said to me that she doesn't feel comfortable with the thought yet and i've offered to show them what I can of things.

Out of interest how old are your greens? Males/females?
