The only problem putting hatchling corns in a viv is them escaping. It only takes the slightest gap, they'll squeeze between the glass panes or any slight hole.

If I were you I'd go down the tub/faunarium route and then place it in a viv later on. Either that or buy one which isn't a hatchling.

that was the problem I had, they always eat fine and were ok, but they squeezed through a gap and I never found one of them.

In your opinions is there any reason "NOT" to get a larger corn, The reason we were told to get a hatchling was due to handling ect, I know my wife would prefer a larger snake(lol) and also it would save the escaping issues of a hatchling as you stated
Thanks
Sean

the only thing about a larger one is finding one for sale that she wants, it tends to be hatchlings and young snakes that get sold alot.

nothin wrong with gettin a adult snake in some ways can be better as an adult thats been looked after properly will be hand tame so easier for a beginner to handle and should be less fussy about eatin

Is a corn snake her only option?? If she is after a larger(thicker snake) a royal would be a good choice and there is plenty of morphs to choose from, just make sure you get one that is feeding well!!

As mentioned, hatchlings will escape through the smallest of places, mine got out between the glass doors, they also get out through the long plastic air vent at the top of the viv.

If you want a corn to put straight into a viv, then anything from a yearling should be fine as long as there are no large gaps in the air vent (nothing a few extra screws cant sort out.), it should be too big to squeeze through the glass at that age.

Rob.
