I would guess he's an orange candycane. I think the substrate is fine, as long as you don't feed him on it. They won't just go and swallow a bit of bark unless its stuck to food. I use it, and I really don't think my snake cares, I mean what about all the people who advise newspaper or kitchen towel? They can't burrow so well in that can they? Just make sure there's plenty of hides.

yeah I want more corns now. Might have some Royal youg guns for sale soon to make room, all shedding well and strike feeding like mentalists!

i love royals, but corns were my first love and will always have a soft spot for em, i think im going to spend a fortune on them in oct at pras

Flinch was out and about last night and in fine form, totally friendly little dude, although he did complain when I accidentally poked him - but that's my fault!
