Default Meet Flinch!

Hi all,

Me a proud man. I bought this little lovely from the Barking show on saturday (I never found out who from, sorry). He is a couple of months old Candy Cane Corn, and I have named him Flinch, after his common behavioural traits.

Now, there is another thread by myself in the discussion forum about what the hell he actually is. I have been an "internet-nerd" for a change, simply to find out what he was, because I am new to snakes and there are a lot of conflicting opinions/stories. Have a look at him and see what you think...

I did a post with a picture and a quote from another site that stated (from a comparison photograph) that there could be a chance he was a cross between an corn and a rat snake. I know bugger all about deciphering them (but thanks to Ian for sending me that link - cheers fella) and to be fair, I am a total beginner, so your opinions/knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Here is what I've copied from the site - "Creamsicles usually have a yellow to light orange color. They are actually a cross between a corn snake and a rat snake (Pantherophis guttatus x Pantherophis emoryi)" - what do you think?

"What the hell am I?"

Now, I felt for this little dude, because he was in a tub, on a massive table with loads of other beautiful corns, all strutting their stuff like supermodels, yet little Flinch had a massive sticker slapped on his tub saying "Deformed tail -£20" - I had to have him! But check his tail out - how strange! I have to say, it's still incredibly strong when he wraps it round my finger!!

So here he is in his new home - he did a few laps at high speed (I thought about naming him Lewis after Lewis Hamilton, but I had a dog called Lewis once so decided to try and be more original) he seems really happy and although typically (so I'm told) flinching and nervy, once he is in my hands he seems fine. God bless Flinch!

I would call him an orange candycane, he is not a red candycane which is where some pictures might be confusing you - I would not say creamsicle myself though, the orange saddles are too bright Lovely snake.

looks like a candy cane or just a high contrats amel to me.

just thought i would mention that that substrate is not very good for snakes, a they find it hard to burrow in it, and is also not safe if ingested. I would change to aspen if i were you.

Also your not keeping him in a aquarium are you?

Thanks Michelle - All corns are lovely in my opinion, you will love yours! Once you get it, post up a pic and we can all help with names!

Thanks for the info - no, I am getting some darker substrate tonight which is different to that rough old bark chipping, and I have Lotus Nut about to build me a three stack of vivs so no, he is not staying in that faunarium for long!

That looks more like love handles/fatty deposits than a deformed tail to me unless i'm looking at the wrong part?

However if the tail is kinked etc then don't breed him as it may be genetic and lead to deformed babies which isn't good.
