How big do dwarf boas grow too? I've always wanted a boa, but I know realistically they would grow too large for me to manage properly. Are they quite rare to find.. I just googled them and there isn't much info I could see. Thanks.

Can't speak with too much authority on dwarf boas in general however the crawl cay grows to approximately 5' with the females averaging a little larger.

I have a few links that I will dig out for you with some information.

Ask Gaz. He will undoubtedly be able to answer all your dwarf boa queries.

He may still have some for sale too.

the dwarf boas i breed are Crawl Cay dwarf boas which come from a sand and mangrove cay off the coast of Honduras in the carribean, this cay is only half a mile square with very limited food resources and over presumably(but not proven) thousands of years the boas that have colonised this cay have become smaller than the norm, this works for any island species as a general rule(even elephants) anyhow the long and the short of it is that island boas usually do not grow above four and a half feet in length, exceptions for large islands of course,i have bred female crawl cays(2006) at three and a half feet in length and got litter of 7 12 inch neonates(compared to common mainland boa neonates of 20-24 inches) generally they are sods to get feeding as in the wild they would be lizard feeders, however once they are going they behave as normal boas and take rodents, growth rate is very slow,i have yearling here that have yet to reach two foot, sexual maturity is usually delayed until 4 years or more due to the small size of the females.
the largest crawl cays i have here are 14 year old adult trio with an average length of 4-4.5 feet.
care of these snakes is the same as for commons though obviously cage sizes can be scaled down,my adults are either in racks in boxes of 30inchesX17inchesX6inches or in rainbow rock cages of 28inchesX24 inchesX12inches,temps same as for normal boas but a hide box containing damp moss is appreciated.
they have kinda groovy day/night colour changes just like hog island boas and many other insular boas from the carribean.
the wild population is presently being monitored at 8 adults and international protection measures are being considered but will most likely be way too late as per normal for political bullshit.
prices:
normal crawl cay neonate (feeding defrost) £150 may have some 2007
hypos 2006 well started £300 available now
poss super hypos 2005 £500-£600
striped and jungles POA if available
hope this helps regards gaz
PS: there are much cheaper and more readily available dwarf boas such as Hog island/Nicaraguan and sonoran boas if they might suit you better, care of all of them is pretty much as per standard common boa B.c.imperator.
