He does not own a false water cobra..... he owns a false cobra. This is Malpolon moilensis, whereas the snake known in the UK as a false water cobra is Hydrodynastes gigas (see pic below)
![]() M. moilensis is considered to have a moderately potent venom which would cause irritation, swelling and discomfort but would not neccessarily do any lasting damage. These are listed on the DWA in the UK. The false water cobra (as pictured) can also deliver a bite that causes swelling, prolonged bleeding and irritation, but again rarely does any asting damage. The biggest risk with these snakes, as with most rear fanged venomous is an allergic response.
