there are others too, lavender is a "base" gene and so is caramel..

then you get snakes with a combination of genes making them look the colour they do..

like

snow = amel+anery, a snake with both no red AND no black pigment
(this one happens to be a striped, come to that in a bit!)

ghost = hypo+anery, a snake with no red pigment, and reduced black pigment

then you get different genes that control the patterns, i have used all pictures based on the wild type colour, to show the pattern variation, rather than the colour variation, but you can see how the motley/stripe gene lightens the overall shading

there are 4 main patterns with one sort of sub type..

normal - even saddles and a checked belly

motley - circular saddles and a plain belly

striped - stripes up and down the spine, plain belly

diffuse - mottled belly, lack of side markings, as an adult, saddles fade away

then you also get snakes which are a mix of motley/stripe.. like yours..

if you are a purist, you avoid these, as an ideal motley is totally circley on the back, and an ideal stripe is totally stripey on the back.. personally i like them too for the unusual markings lol..

np easty..

patterns... you can of course get snakes in different colours as well as patterns...

so this one is an amel stripe - amel+stripe

this one a snow motley - amel+anery+motley

and this his belly, to show what i meant about clear - this one now belongs to wohic

and whilst we're on bellies.. this is what i mean by checked

even a snow corn, will show the checks.. but in a snow they are offwhite/yellow.. in an amel they are orangey, anerys they are black, like the one above

this is a diffuse belly
