Is he really that big or is it the photos? He`s a lovely looking boy, but unfortunately in my opinion seriously overweight. There is an awful lot of flesh showing between his scales.

Just my opinion i know, but he`d look so much nicer around the 700g mark.

Hes not overweight in the slightest. Hes a large corn who is fed every 2 weeks on 2 small mice (15g each) or 1 chick. Thats underfeeding IMO.

Hes is a large animal, and you would have to see him in person to get a feel of his shape. Hes solid as a rock His belly scales are flat and not rounded as you often see in overweight corns, his skin is "lose" and flexible around his sides and he is not squishable.

In the first shot when I first got him he was slightly squishy, but he toned up without having to lose any weight through an appropriate diet and regular exercise.

Well yes I agree lol. People are shocked by his size but I am not. Corns can get big. Many females don't reach their potental size due to being bred from 300 grams which IMO is too small however it is the "standard" breeding weight. This must have detrimental effects on the rate of their growth afterwards. I would prefer my females to be over 400 and ideally around 500/600.

Then again there are genetically small corns, and genetically big corns like Panther.

Panther has never been bred although he is producing sperm plugs quite a lot recently.

Fair enough, only an opinion. Just at nearly 5 feet i wouldn`t class him as large yet, my large males were around 5 and a half feet, and maximum weight would have been 700-800g at that length. Every 2 weeks on 2 small mice is in my opinion a decent diet rather than "underfeeding" One of my adult females is nearly 5 feet and 650g. She is on 1 small every fortnight at the most frequent. I don`t consider it underfeeding, its a maintainence diet.

Each to their own i guess.

I am not particuarly fond of maintanence diets in young snakes, however I feel it is sometimes best for older larger snakes. Theres no reason for him to gain more weight, he just needs to maintain his healthy body weight.

Hes a short corn, has always been "stumpy" and is actually a bit of a miracle snake. My partner hatched him out 5 years ago from a mouldy green egg and he didn't think Panther would make it. But look at him now

I don't think length to body weight is vastly important and I don't think it means much at all... I have a 5ft female corn who is 600 grams and shes quite a bulky corn, but extremely well toned for poppin those egglets out hopefully. Every snakes body shape and consistancy is different. Panther is short and robust but he is certainly not fat.

If you look at his bodily proportions rather than comparing length to weight you will see he has a large head, robust and short neck, thick middle and a shorter tail end. Hes well in proportion IMO.

I understand why some may think so though, you don't see many decent sized corns around these days.

Fair enough, i just prefer to keep mine relatively close to nature weightwise, well as close as anyone can in captivity. With being naturally slender creatures i prefer not to see too much weight being carried. Doesn`t mean they`re not decent, just means they`re more as nature intended.

Anyway, he`s a lovely looking snake.
