He seems in perfect health and is friendly and alert. Have't tried to feed him yet as he was fed on Sunday. Apparently he was an awkward eater when young and had to be assist fed for quite a while but now is a good eater and never refuses. I suppose the next thing is to see how well he eats and take it from there. He doesn't seem underweight but isn't as bulky looking as my 7yr old female but then I know this can fluctuate as they grow.

Different royals weigh different amounts, i weighed my 06's last night and they range from 311g-500g and i have some 05s at 800-1100.

A lot of the time people push royals TOO hard in order to get them to that breeding weight by 2yrs old etc when often a steady grown snake will be better overall in health wise and breeding wise.

Probably just fretting over nothing. When looking for him, all the others for sale were around the 700-1000g. Certainly don't want to force him on. One of my corns came to me slightly overweight but with lumps near the tail due to being forced on. She is now a normal weight and a lot more lively and curious.

Belive you me there are some ridiculously overdone royals in the UK i know of a 1kg august 07 female, that's a snake that will be dead in 5years from overfeeding/overbreeding.

I have a five year old male who had just started feeding again since October. He weighed in at 1.3kg last week, so your Royal seems a little on the light side to me.

Does the snake look/feel healthy?

To sum it up easily.

1)When looking at it from above does it look triangular?

2)Can you feel ribs?

3)When it's moving in your hands can you feel the spine PROMINENTLY, you should be able to feel it but it shouldn't be sharp edges of vertebra but a rounded bumpy feel.

If NO is the answer to all then it's fine, so long as it isn't clearly underweight and believe me you'd know as it'd be really long and skinny and look like a toblerone bar if it was.
