Default Driftwood [PLEASE READ]

Ok i found some driftwood on the beach dose it need to be boiled/froze/baked to kill off anything that could be living on it? I have read that its best to do so but im not sure about this one as i would of thought it would be ok seen as its just been winter and its only been in the sea? Thankyou, James.

I would do one or the other. We recently put a huge piece of bark in a bath for ages but when it was drying off we noticed it was teeming with ants. Had to chuck it as too big for oven.

It needs some sort of sterilisation, yes.

If it fits in the oven, put it in at 200C for about an hour. That should sort it.

EDIT: freezing only kills parasites, not bacteria, dont do that.

Freezing won't kill all nasties. Bake it or boil it.

I use driftwood in a couple of my vivs. The good thing is that it normally comes without bark on it. I always take it home, powerwash it, place in the bath and pour boiling water over it. I leave it in the bath overnight weighted down to keep it all submerged and then hang it in the garage to dry naturally. Never had any problems with any of it and it tends to look really good.
