It's your parents' house and ultimately they have the say on what comes in and what goes out. Kat's suggestion (faroopnorthsnakes) is the best you've been given so far - learn and learn and persevere, but accept that you may never win.
Lorcan is desperate, but he has enough respect for his parents not to just bring a snake home. He has the right idea (well done Lorcan! )You know your parents better than anyone on here (as Lorcan knows his) and you will know if you bring one in without your parents' consent, whether or not they will accept it - if they don't what are you going to do with it? Another snake looking to find a new home............. Try to get your parents to look at books and go either to a reptile shop or, better still, someone's home who has snakes (some pet shops will tell you anything to get you to buy something) so that your parents can talk to them about what's involved in keeping snakes. And if you don't succeed and if you read other threads on here, like Lorcan's you see that there are many of you who don't (I was one!), then at least when you have a place of your own, you'll know exactly which snake you want and how to look after it.

was a bit different with my mum, i worked at an animal rescue center, was doing an animal care course and was bringing home all sorts of wildlife rehab cases most weeks so as much as she didnt like the mess/noise etc of all that she let me get on with it, even built me brand new avairys for my birds of prey and helped me with my food bill etc, so when i asked about bringing some mice home from the sanctuary she said no...but i just kinda did it anyway, snuck them in her car with all the other rehab cases and brought them home and once they were there she was fine with them.
same with a snake, she wouldnt let me get one, but after i got my setup ready she still said no then i went out and got 1, with my money and she was fine with it aslong as she didnt have anything to do with it. but i can see why my case is different from most peoples because we literally did have a small zoo whilst i lived at home and i think she was just happy i was doing something i enjoyed and was good at and trusted me not to just get something because i could and that i would research it and care for it rather than get bored of it a week later but i would honestly say research it, make sure its something you want and that your not going to get bored of, because it is addictive!!! but ultimatly, if they say no its their choice, not all parents are as understanding as my mum lol

waiting wont do you any harm, in themean time read up on them and show your parents you're willing to learn as much as possible. then they'll know you're serious about it

I accepted the fact that while I lived under my parents roof as long as they said no, that was it. Once I'd moved into my own place I brought the snakes I wanted and appreciated them more. I also spent alot of my teenage years reading about snakes and how to look after them.

I'm assuming you're quite young, early teens maybe? If it were me I would try and change their minds by casually referring to all the other things people your age get up to who don't have a hobby and are without anything constructive to do with their time. You know the sort of thing; hanging about in packs on street corners, shop-lifting, experimenting with booze, cigs and drugs etc etc. As far as I'm concerned, keeping reptiles is one of the best hobbies that anyone (but especially younger people) can have. It teaches responsibility, encourages reading, you learn about biology and science, and you can potentially supplement your income/pocket money by selling any offspring that you produce. cheers Stuart
